ReplyDeleteSuch mixed feelings seeing that Jackie ad. On the one hand, it's good that advertisers were willing to use Black spokesmen at a time when there was still such rampant racism. On the other, you hate to see a hero like that encouraging smoking. (Let's face it, kids were going to see and be influenced by those ads.) It's a great picture, in any event.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when this ad came out... and also when did people it come out that smoking was bad for your health. I was born in the early 70's and knew from a kid that smoking wasn't good for your health... but for some reason... I feel like there was a period when people didn't know it was as bad as they know it is now.
