The Bloody Lip

Certain cards are famous for the picture on the card.  They remind us of the event and the impact on

our sports knowledge.  This card has recently shot up in value.

An occasional scrum still happens today, but nobody would be able to pitch with a
"Bloody Lip"

Is this an error card?  69 Topps Rub off on the base 69 Oliva.  The card has no edges around the Rub-off.

My first Hires Root Beer card.  It was my dad's favorite root beer and we would have root beer floats while watching Saturday's Game of the week on TV.

Rico would enjoy the Super Soakers of today.

Where's Waldo?  Baseball's attempt with Bazooka Joe.  Can you spot him in the card?

Lackey's first minor league card

An oddball from Gaylord.

  2. The Oliva was probably just some kid adding on the smaller decal, then having it blemish or rub off over time. I’ve never seen that Lackey and it’s neat seeing such a minor league card of a guy who would be a longtime bug leaguer.

  3. Wow, seems like 10 bucks is the low-end for that Ryan card. You could get that card for pennies for years.

  5. a. I'm sure this might rub some people the wrong way... but I'm truly fascinated when cards skyrocket in value overnight. Cardboredom recently showed off the 1995 Pinnacle Griffey where he's blowing a bubble on his blog and he mentioned the soaring prices people are getting. You're the biggest bubble collector I know. I hope you're sitting on a fortune :D

    b. Not sure how many current guys could pitch with a bloody lip, but if I had to pick one... it'd be Max Scherzer. Did you ever see him taking bunting practice and the ball smacks him in the face? He broke his nose, gave himself a wicked black eye, and went on to strike out 10 Phillies. The guy is a freak.
