Beer ads at the ballpark.

As I look at cards, I'm probably more interested in the background or action taking place than in the specific player.  My latest backdrop search is for different beer ads.  Here are my brands so far.

Busch Beer

Miller High Life

Coors Light

Coors

Lite Beer

Budweiser King of Beers

Bud

Not a card, but was mixed in

Football
Working on other sports

Budweiser, Coke and Marlboro

HOF'er Bobby Doerr and just the Beer Bottle.

I've got a feeling this is just the "tip of the iceberg"
Next is finding the oldest card with a beer on it.

  1. I'm sure there are a lot of cards which show the beer ads on the Shea Stadium scoreboard. 1976 SSPC was almost entirely shot at Shea--see Steve Yeager's card for a good look at the Schaefer ad. https://images.app.goo.gl/FRybn73wfRwpYQMS6 Cleon Jones' 1973 Topps shows the same scoreboard, but with a Rheingold ad. https://images.app.goo.gl/gANWmd2zvGR3FjVF9

  2. Very cool. I'll see what I might have that fits this collection. You can see the Schlitz sign that sat above Wrigley Field for many years on Harvey Haddix's 1960 Topps card. I don't know if it's clear enough a shot for your collection. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/47/cid/27940/1960-Topps-340-Harvey-Haddix

  3. Another interesting collection. I love it.

P.S. Received your package on Friday or Saturday... oh the days are starting to blend together. I look forward to tearing into it (probably this Friday... when my holiday break begins). Thanks in advance.

  4. Both the '57 Topps cards of Charlie Neal and Johnny Podres show the Schaefer scoreboard beer ad. ... The '80s are loaded with cards with beer ads in the background.

  5. There's a 2020 Heritage Willie Mays with a Hamm's Beer advertisement in the background. Topps colorized the beer to be red though. I cover it at the end of this post. https://njwv.wordpress.com/2020/06/16/pme-from-night-owl/
